Can someone explain to me a bit about mesh WiFi and different ways to do it?
Many mesh wifi nodes support ethernet backhaul which makes them pretty much identical in terms of performance to wired access points. So there's no technical downside to buying mesh instead of regular APs if you wire them. Also, and this is a noob question, are wireless mesh wifi that bad? Mesh is the best wireless solution to improve coverage. It's just not as good as ethernet. There are also differences between mesh systems. Ideally you want a system with a dedicated backhaul radio. One problem with mesh is that people who buy it have problem with coverage (obviously) and it's often due to a combination of distances and walls. Mesh won't perform well over longer distances and with problematic walls. So it's not always a good solution, and when it is the placement has to be well thought out. The second problem is that many people who have problems with mesh systems are gamers. Gaming often requires low latency, and with two or more wireless segments you're kind of doubling the chance of a ping spike. Mesh works well for many users when installed correctly. In 2023/2024, is there any reason NOT to be buying a mesh network?
I will and would never use Wi-Fi mesh. All access points always wired (they need PoE anyway) for best throughput and lowest latency (8ms to 8.8.8.8) possible. Wi-Fi mesh is pure marketing. More on reddit.com

What are you thoughts on wifi mesh systems?
My eero mesh system (eero pro 6 3-pack) did a great job of extending reliable wifi coverage throughout the house, but maximum download speed was cut in half when connected to one of the satellite nodes. In practice, I only notice this when doing speed tests. I eventually hardwired them, and now they all perform equally. They are also pretty proactive in trying to encourage devices to "jump" to a node that has better signal (many devices tend to avoid switching on their own until the signal is very weak), which is nice. Hello,

First of all, I'm very sorry about my lack of knowledge here, I tried researching a bit, but I stay confused about a thing or two about the ways to improve your WiFi around your place.

A lot of people recommend to hardwire your WiFi points around your house to get the best possible results, which I perfectly understand and makes sense.
Though, I read a bit about mesh WiFi, and also found out that you can also wire them to the main router to make the whole thing reliable, and so I believe I'm mainly confused about the terms and vocabulary here, because I read on reddit that you should avoid at all costs mesh WiFi, but what would be the difference here if they're wired?

Also, and this is a noob question, are wireless mesh wifi that bad?
